As automation and digitalisation continue to transform the mobility sector, understanding where changes will occur and how they will affect workers, organisations, and society is essential. The EC CCAM project ReSKILLING has established an analytical framework for assessing the employment, skills, socio-economic, and business impacts of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM).

To support this, ReSKILLING has defined eight use cases representing key areas of the future mobility ecosystem. The use cases cover a broad range of mobility-related activities, including urban and peri-urban passenger transport and digital mobility services, smart logistics and automated freight operations, integrated passenger and freight mobility systems, shared and on-demand mobility services, smart transport infrastructure and connectivity systems, traffic management and remote operations, automated transport systems maintenance, and mobility data platforms and digital services.

For each use case, the project has analysed the operational context, key stakeholders, relevant professions, emerging skills requirements, and the potential socio-economic and employment impacts associated with the deployment of CCAM technologies.

A key feature of the framework is its focus on inclusion and fairness. The analysis considers how the transition towards automated mobility may affect different population groups, including women, young labour market entrants, older workers, migrants, people with disabilities, and others who may face specific challenges or opportunities during the transformation.

The framework provides a structured approach to understanding where change is expected and what skills will be required in the future, enabling evidence-based recommendations for workforce adaptation. The next phase of the project will apply these use cases within dedicated case studies, helping to design targeted reskilling pathways, training programmes, and policy recommendations that contribute to a fair and inclusive transition towards automated mobility.
