PAVE Europe is a non-profit coalition that aims at fostering understanding of autonomous mobility by citizens policymakers, medias, and stakeholders of the transport and mobility ecosystem. Its mission is to build understanding, trust and informed dialogue around autonomous mobility based on evidence-base information.

During the past 2 years the deployment of automated mobility has accelerated in several regions of the world. While these deployments remain concentrated in specific locations, mostly in urban areas, they are increasingly becoming integrated as part of local transport ecosystems. This acceleration is expected to continue and intensify as systems’ maturity has been reach by enough companies to ensure the uptake.

In this rapidly evolving context, PAVE Europe seeks to address a critical question: how can awareness of automated mobility be raised to enhance understanding, build trust, and support informed dialogue?

By engaging in this work, PAVE Europe wants to strengthen the knowledge of citizens, policymakers and stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making regarding the deployment of autonomous mobility while supporting their safe adoption, use, and coexistence within society.

This is where education becomes central.

For citizens, education focuses on building a basic understanding of autonomous mobility, clarifying what the technology can and cannot do, addressing common misconceptions, and highlighting its potential benefits and limitations. For policymakers, education supports evidence-based decision-making by providing objective information on safety, regulation, liability, accessibility, and the conditions required for deployment. For cities, mobility agencies, public transport authorities and other stakeholders, education combines both dimensions. These actors need to understand the technology itself, its capabilities and limitations, while also developing knowledge on implementation, integration into transport systems, operational challenges and public value. This is particularly important as many public authorities do not have dedicated expertise on autonomous mobility but will play a key role in shaping how these services are introduced locally.

Through conferences, citizen engagement campaigns, educational materials, expert panels, demonstration projects, training activities, and dialogue with public authorities and academia, PAVE Europe tailors its educational efforts to these different audiences while promoting transparency, informed discussion, and better understanding of autonomous mobility.

This is where PAVE Europe contributes directly to CCAMbassador. Building on its mission to foster public understanding of autonomous mobility through clear, factual and accessible information, PAVE Europe co-leads activities focused on citizens. Through the assessment of citizens’ awareness, attitudes and concerns towards CCAM services, PAVE Europe helps identify needs, gaps and areas for improvement. Building on these insights, PAVE Europe contributes to the development of awareness-raising materials, campaigns and engagement tools tailored to different citizen profiles and levels of awareness. By supporting both the assessment and the raising of awareness, PAVE Europe helps ensure that citizens are better informed about CCAM technologies and services and can engage in informed discussions based on facts and experience rather than assumptions.
