A new era for Beijing: Robotaxis without safety drivers

On May 2 2021 Baidu launched its driverless robotaxi service without a safety driver in Beijing.  Supported by remote operators via 5G in case of an emergency, the vehicles will be used to carry passengers within Beijing’s  Shougang Park. Future plans include offering the service during the upcoming winter Olympics, providing a shuttle service to athletes and staff, as well as the expansion to other cities in China.
