Big data tool for the European public administrations

The European Commission (under the Digital Europe Programme) offers the Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI), a ready-to-use, free-of-charge, cloud-based analytics test environment, for all European public administrations to experiment with open-source, prototype solutions before deploying them on their own premises.

Any public administration at any level (local, regional, and national) can request to use BDTI to perform analysis and experiments on their public data: a fictional scenario has been built to demonstrate how traffic data can be leveraged to optimize public lighting. You can read about success stories and actual use cases here. These pilots illustrate the practical benefits of data-informed decision-making in the public sector and can lead to new ideas and initiatives.

Explore the website and find out more about the service offering and resources (among which webinars, training courses, documentation, etc.) to help public administrations set up a pilot project for creating, testing and implementing innovative services based on public sector information.

A new online course has recently been launched to promote knowledge of open-source tools in the public sector and the associated benefits. The course covers various key aspects of the importance of data in the public sector, including the most important EU legal acts, directives, and regulations.
