CIVITAS Summer Course 2026

28 Jun 2026 - 02 Jul 2026

Guimarães, Portugal

Bringing together urban mobility professionals, researchers, and students with the objective to exchange experience and develop personal and professional knowledge and skills, this year’s edition focuses on “Lobbying and Advocacy” and addresses the city of Guimarães’ key mobility challenges, including:

  • Improving inter- and multimodal connections between the bus terminal and railway stations: improving accessibility, safety and the overall user experience in a constrained area with high car dependency, diverse user needs and limited investment capacity
  • Promoting safe and inclusive school mobility through low-cost, high-impact measures that strengthen children’s autonomy and public acceptance
  • Developing sustainable urban logistics solutions in the historic centre: redesigning goods distribution to reduce congestion and pollution while protecting economic activity and respecting heritage constraints through governance, regulation and stakeholder engagement

Through expert lectures, site visits, interactive group work and peer exchange, participants will collaborate to develop practical solutions to real urban mobility challenges. The course concludes with participants presenting their solutions to the city.

The CIVITAS Summer Course is aimed at urban mobility professionals and at (a limited number of) students from European universities/universities of applied sciences or similar. Participation is free, and a limited number of travel and accommodation scholarships are available. Deadline for application: 29 March 2026
