Swiss public transport launches autonomous service AmiGo

31 October 2025

PostBus and Apollo Go will launch a public transport service in Eastern Switzerland using bookable, on-demand electric autonomous vehicles. After a testing phase beginning in December 2025, up to 25 vehicles are planned to run as a regular service, without safety drivers, from 2027.

The service will supplement the current public transport offering in rural areas and regions or during off-peak times, where traditional services are not optimally accessible. The vehicles can seat up to four passengers and include luggage storage space. The service will also allow for ride pooling to improve vehicle utilization.

The project partners on board include the cantons of St. Gallen, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Thurgau, the Federal Office of Transport (FOT), the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) and Touring Club Switzerland (TCS).
