Energy and environment
The energy and environment impact area addresses the impacts of CCAM on energy use and on emissions of vehicles, air quality, and noise pollution.
This area studies the potential of CCAM to reduce overall energy use, emissions, and noise from road traffic, and to contribute to related environmental goals. It evaluates whether CCAM offers better alternatives to current travel modes and mobility services, guiding policymakers on how (and how not) to implement CCAM.
Greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and energy use of a road network over time are influenced by the carbon or energy intensity of vehicles, as well as the total travel and transport activity as visualised in the next figure.

Main components of the energy and environment impact area.
