Objectives

Automation in road transport plays a crucial role in advancing key policy priorities set by the European Commission, such as the greening and digitalisation of our societies, industries and economies. Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (CCAM) contributes to this dual transition by enhancing safety, accessibility, and sustainability in transport, while driving innovation and boosting European industrial competitiveness.

Recent years have seen significant progress in Europe, with automated solutions already emerging at scale, including automated highway driving systems, urban shuttles, valet parking, and advanced logistics operations. These developments are supported by landmark regulatory frameworks such as the EU Automated Driving Systems Regulation, which sets a global example for enabling Level 4 vehicle type-approval. Under EU leadership, key stakeholders – from industry to research, and from public authorities to users – continue to innovate and regulate at the nexus of technology, climate and mobility, to accelerate the deployment of futureproof CCAM solutions.

Nevertheless, Europe needs more large-scale testing, demonstrations and pilot projects involving all relevant stakeholders to accelerate implementation and remove barriers, allowing a progressive and seamless transition to CCAM. Thisrequires scaling technological readiness, tackling regulatory obstacles, increasing public and private investments, and aligning solutions with societal and environmental expectations.

As we move to 2030, the implementation of large-scale demonstrations of CCAM solutions all over Europe, under the umbrella of the CCAM Partnership, will be crucial to capitalise on the R&I results achieved so far under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe and to support final deployment readiness.

The EUCAD 2025 Conference will take stock of latest advancements and address the challenges of CCAM deployment in Europe, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers to continue driving Europe’s leadership in smart, sustainable, and inclusive road transport systems.

Objectives

  • Showcase the impact of the CCAM Partnership through key Horizon Europe projects, highlighting advances in research, innovation, and deployment;
  • Take stock of the latest policy, research, and regulatory developments, demonstrating how R&I addresses key challenges and supports European leadership in automated mobility solutions;
  • Provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, debate technological and policy advancements, and identify shared challenges and opportunities for collaboration;
  • Promote the uptake of European R&I results to accelerate the market deployment of CCAM solutions, supporting sustainable and scalable mobility systems;
  • Gather actionable recommendations from all EUCAD sessions to provide valuable insights and guidance for researchers, industry stakeholders, and Member States to advance CCAM technology, regulation, and infrastructure development.
