The 5G SEAGUL (5G Seamless Roaming for the Greece-Bulgaria Cross-Border Corridor) project contributes towards the EU Gigabit Society Strategy and the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy objectives, by upgrading the 5G connectivity along a significant part of the Orient – East Med Corridor, that comprises one of the major EU transport paths.
5G SEAGUL aims at deploying full operational state-of-the-art 5G networks for more than 450 km along the Greece-Bulgaria highway, and validating real-life Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) applications for safety, convenience, logistics, etc.
The deployment area covers the highway from Velestino (Central Greece) up to Sofia (Bulgaria) and passes also through the Promahonas (GR) – Kulata (BG) border crossing, where the complexity and challenges of seamless 5G roaming are investigated.
Attendees will have the opportunity to experience uninterrupted data and voice services during the handover between commercial mobile networks, implemented by the participating network operators COSMOTE and A1BG. Advanced connected automated use cases for transport and logistics will also be showcased.
The three-year project 5G SEAGUL (started in January 2023) is funded by the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme (CEF-DIG-2021-5GCORRIDORS-WORKS call).
