Connectivity

Connectivity between vehicles with other vehicles and/or the infrastructure is considered as an important factor enhancing further the benefits of automated driving in terms of safety, traffic efficiency and comfort. In ARCADE this TA aims to highlight the current situation, debate the way forward with key stakeholders and recommend concrete actions to address challenges, key uncertainties and blocking issues, thus maximizing the anticipated impact.

The work in Year 1 of ARCADE was focused around identifying the challenges, the enablers and analyzing which of these challenges consist roadblocks in CAD deployment.  After performing this analysis, key actions per area have been identified. For Connectivity the most important actions are summarized below: Define Day 2 and Day 3 C-ITS services and connectivity requirements for AD functions, promote hybrid connectivity solutions, create a roadmap and policy framework, standardize security in V2X technologies, and establish safety integrity levels.

The results of Year 1 of ARCADE, addressing the challenges and enablers (required actions), are summerised in Connectivity roadmap (or “road ahead”) figure hereunder. The detailed results, ‘Technical Thematic Areas: challenges and scenarios’ can be downloaded from the “Documentation” link below.

The analysis of the main challenges, enablers, roadblocks and initial actions required were investigated during the first year of ARCADE. The second year is about prioritisation and further detailing these actions using input form stakeholders and projects.

In ARCADE the “Connectivity” Thematic Area team is currently detailing and prioritising the related actions. Next step is to collect feedback on these actions from key stakeholders through a stakeholder consultation (survey). We invite all interested stakeholders to share their opinions and feedback. In case you are interested and would like to be informed when the survey is available, please contact us by using the contact details in ‘’Contact’’ link hereunder.
