MODI project kicks off the journey for highly automated freight vehicles with a test drive in Hamburg
The MODI project, a joint effort involving key industry players, recently achieved a pivotal milestone during a significant reference drive in Hamburg. This initiative focuses on advancing highly automated freight vehicles and assessing their performance in real-world conditions, alongside evaluating the infrastructure’s readiness to support such cutting-edge driving technology.
The effort involved several key partners, like New Mobility Solutions Hamburg, Gruber Logistics, BASt, Volvo, DAF, and the city of Hamburg. They aimed to deeply understand how standard trucks perform to pave the way for enhancements. The MODI initiative highlights the importance of connected and automated vehicles in making logistics more efficient and profitable. Overcoming challenges like regulations and infrastructure, MODI focuses on the logistic route from Rotterdam to Oslo, with Hamburg as a crucial point.
